What fitness myths have you heard? Feel free to share with me on my Facebook Page, Transcendent Wellness, or my blog The FitChick Blog! I would love to hear your thoughts!

Myth #1: Muscle Weighs More than Fat

Muscle tissue does NOT weigh more than fat tissue. A pound of one thing equals a pound of the next thing-always. Ten pounds of muscle weighs exactly the same as ten pounds of fat, ten pounds of feathers, or ten pounds of whatever. They all weigh ten

Your body can't tell much difference between the cheap high-fructose corn syrup and more expensive forms of processed sugar. Cutting as much processed sugar as you can out of your diet is one of the smartest things you can do to lose weight and improve your health.

Myth #3: Low-fat processed foods are healthy.
Ummmm...not so much. Low-fat foods often replace fat with other ingredients that are just as unhealthy or unhealthier. Fat typically makes food taste better and once that is removed, companies must put something in there to make the product edible (aka CHEMICALS). Eating foods that are higher in fat, but natural, are MUCH better for your body. Add healthy fats like those found in avocados, nuts, fish and olive oils into your daily eating regimen.

Myth # 4: Organic is always better than nonorganic.
For the most part, the difference between organic and nonorganic produce is the use of pesticides. Foods with permeable skins--such as apples and strawberries--are better to purchase organic. Foods with impermeable skins--such as bananas--are safer to buy commercially since very few pesticides are

Most things, even with low sugar values, aren’t worth it for me and don’t have enough of a nutritional value to consider eating. Another issue I noted with Elizabeth deciding to eliminate sugar from her diet was the consistency of it. If Elizabeth cuts out sugar completely and loses 20 pounds, and then goes back to eating how she was previously, she will gain the weight right back. I’ve been told by my nutritionist and physician that whatever I do to lose weight form this point forward (because my body is pretty much done losing weight form the surgery), I must be committed to do that that for the rest of my life if I want to maintain that additional loss.…

“Feel the burn!” That was Jane Fonda in 1982, exhorting the viewers of her first-of-its-kind workout video to engage in an exotic pursuit called exercise. In her striped leotard and legwarmers, Fonda led the charge against the generally held opinion that exercise was a weird waste of time. (In those days, lifting weights was for Charles Atlas aspirants, and jogging was for quirky “health nuts.”) The tireless exertions of Fonda — and of tiny-shorted Richard Simmons and toothy Judi Sheppard Missett, the founder of Jazzercise — were ultimately wildly successful, making what was then an eccentric choice into what is now practically an obligation.…

When I told my siblings at dinner they uncontrollably laughed so hard that they cried. They told me I was crazy; running three miles was suicide and I felt that what they were saying had merit. You see I am not much a sportsman when I was a younger while others played basketball or soccer I prefered to stay and inside and have long conversations with any adult I could find. The moral of this story is that you do not need to be an experienced runner to run a 5k and so that brings me to my number one myth.…

The United States’ obesity rate is increasing substantially and cutting the proportion sizes of food serving is not benefiting the fight to cut the obesity rate. However, we can start making changes to our daily lives and improve our health and well-being by adding a little more physical activity into our lives. To start an exercise routine can be simple, but what we all struggle with for the most important part is to be consistent. Throughout their life, females are held to different standards than males (Brabazon 2006). They are told to look and behave in certain ways; they are treated separately from men in ways of women’s rights, their wages, and how they are looked at from society (Brabazon, 2006). However, if a women was to deviate from the social norms, she becomes the object for jokes, gossip and discussions between others around her (Brabazon 2006). Men do not seem to have these same social norms, they are looked at as superior to women, and tend to not have to act and look certain ways, in order to be treated…
