Tootsie Roll Drive Reflection

Improved Essays
I volunteered at the Forest Mall for the Tootsie Roll Drive. This organization provides service for those people with intellectual disabilities. What I physically did while volunteering at the Forest Mall was hand out Tootsie Rolls outside to the people that donated money. I also would kindly ask people to donate as they came in or out of the mall. I kept a kind and loving smile on my face to welcome anyone who was willing to donate. Something that motivated me to do this service was that I do this with my dad and my younger sister every year and we always have a good time doing this service since my dad likes making jokes and hiding on us when we are not looking and scare us. Also, it is always an experience to see who all donates. While handing out Tootsie Rolls I expected people to donate money because many people know about the good that the Tootsie Roll Drive provides. …show more content…
I also learned that children and teens are more excited and willing to give money than adults and parents. This was seen when a teen was running into the mall to go shopping for himself and dropped a $20 bill in the jar that I was holding. Also, when I was handing out Tootsie Rolls to the people who were donating, a hand full of people would say no thank you because they wanted me to give it to a younger child instead, which was very nice of them. With all the donations the Tootsie Roll Drive is able to help the individuals with intellectual disabilities and disability programs in our local

The need for food in my community inspired me to become more active in volunteering at the food pantry. In the town that I live in, over 300 families come to this food pantry every month to receive food for the month. Many of the head of households in the families are unemployed and receive government assistance. It pains me to see some of the circumstances that individual people and families are in who come to the food bank, but it gives me great joy to see how I am a part of helping them overcome their need for food, even if it is for only a short period of time. The amount gratification that some of the people have that come to the pantry for food is rewarding in numerous ways.…

Something that my family and I do to pay it forward is host a hunting camp for the disabled. We as a family host this deer camp for disabled people ranging from ages anywhere from ten to fifty, some being veterans and some being young people. We do this every year on opening day of rifle season. As we are hosting this hunting camp, we are paying it forward to disabled people giving them an awesome hunting experience, home cooked meals, and a chance to make amazing memories. To extend our ability to pay it forward, we donate half of the meat from the deer they shoot to a local market for other people to benefit from, along with getting the deer mounted for our new hunting friend.…

For my random acts of kindness, I made lunch for my family, cleaned up dog poop in our backyard, and vacuumed the house.…

Once I made the transition to becoming vegan, I wanted everybody else to see that veganism is undemanding and has positive impacts on myself and the world around me. I didn’t, however, want to turn into what society had deemed a stereotypical vegan: pushy, argumentative, and aggressive. It is easy to let your passion carry you away in an argument, but spitting out facts, picking fights, and shaming people aren’t effective ways to defend animal rights. You can spend all day trying to reason with someone.…

People who have volunteered in the past often become emotionally involved and are more likely to volunteer again in the future, either on the same project or a new one. It is not uncommon for volunteers to return home with a determination to continue their good work in the local community as well. Personal Benefit As well as offering travellers the opportunity to develop their skills, build up their CV and explore the world, volunteering can also offer personal benefits. Many volunteering organisations, including i-to-i, offer past volunteers a discount on their products, so their future travels can be a lot less expensive.…
