Chapter 9 in Tools for Mindful Living is about witnessing your thoughts. When we let our thoughts control our experiences, we ultimately alter that experience. Negative thinking is never the way to go when completing a task; all it does it put negative energy all around you and once you start thinking that all you are going to do is fail, then that is likely what is going to end up happening. Napoli mentions that we all have a ‘Mindless Monster’ who keeps us “stuck in the past or obsessing about the future. Fear prevents us from embracing the present moment.” It is extremely important to think in the present and live each day right here and right now! Negative behavior does not nurture us.
