Stephen King on Writing Stephen King is known as one of the best prolific writers of our time. He offered a great deal of advice to aspiring writers. When reading some of his memoir, you can grasp what type of guy he is. I personally don’t like his way of thinking. But his work is definitely a piece to read and is very informational. He relates stories that make him who he is as a writer today.
Stephen King starts off by telling the reader a story and how the writers “Toolbox” came about. This toolbox is to be helpful for writers and really does give good advice for writers. Stephen King believed, was much more important to the writer's arsenal. A writer should strive to expand their knowledge of grammar in order to avoid common mistakes that make writing weak. Stephen King advices writers to use active verbs rather than passive, as well as paying attention to paragraph structure and the proper use of fragments and run-on sentences.
Stephen King continued his advice by describing the process in which he uses to write his own novels. Stephen King recommended writing the first draft of a novel all at once, taking no more than three months to write an eighty thousand word novel. Stephen King then recommended putting the finished novel into a drawer for no less than six weeks in order to get some distance.
