That being said, I present a statement made in this forum.
A question of my intelligence and another members was raised in this chat. Religion Kills does not allow this as a basis to
Rhetorical Analysis Rough Draft To Jay Heinrichs, author of “Thank You for Arguing”, rhetoric is a persuasive essential; and while used in the art of influence, it provides an undeniable amount of credulous logic. The rhetoric used in the time frame of this book pertains to many political debates and presidential campaigns. Politicians need to use the tool of rhetoric to sway their audience’s opinion. The communication made from a speaker to an audience is illustrated dealing primarily with credibility, and the logic concerned with the writers argument; rhetoric is the most powerful argumentative tool.…
The IQ test is the test in which intelligence can be measured. In the last few centuries test scores have changed, or even increased. Psychologist and scientists are uncertain about why this is happening, either we’re getting more intelligent, or the IQ tests need to change. In the field of psychology there's one psychologist who is ready to show the world what human intelligence is really about, his name is Professor Flynn. Intelligence is an indirect process that humans use to explain the different degrees of adaptive success in people’s behavior.…
The essay The Better For My Foes written by Elouise Bell. Bell emphasizes the importance of opposition. Relaying common mistakes Americans and Mormons participate in deeming all opposition as pure evil. Bell draws a light on personal and intellectual growth that can be erected from opposition, but demonstrates the consequences of asserting it. - In both articles, authors were talking about how the academic and non-academic learning can be more valuable in the society, we found many facts that tell us how society can respect you if you are an educated individual. “Blue-collar Brilliance”, Professor Mike Rose address that society’s blind views on the intellectual ability of the people operating jobs related to serving or manual workers. Judaism vs. Islam In this essay I will review my understanding of the major beliefs and practices of two of the great Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Islam. I will attempt to take the position of proponents of each religion, and delineate areas of agreement and disagreement. What makes this comparison so compelling, and relevant, is the great human suffering that has resulted, and continues to result, from those who cloak their aggression and hatred under the veil of each religion. Judaism is quite liberal on the issue of the exact nature of God.…
Samual Yisehak C. Petitti ENGL 1105-42R 29 September 2016 Hidden Intellectualism Response Gerald Graff, a professor of English at the University of Illinois, wrote Hidden Intellectualism, an excerpt from the book They Say/I Say. The essay tackles the issue that one cannot be intelligent in any context except for the academic world. Intellectualism by any other subject is just as academic. I agree with Graff’s main point, however, I take umbrage with small details used in the essay.…
Gerald Graff's work, Hidden Intellectualism, is a display of hidden intellectualism in everyday life. In other words, education does not always come from schooling but is also taught from the world around us on the smallest level. In the article, Graff draws attention to what the typical view of what intelligence is often considered to be and why this is wrong throughout several repeated forms. A key strength of this article is presented right away through the debut.…
An intellectual is defined as a person who places a high value on or pursues things of interest to the intellect or the more complex forms and fields of knowledge. This definition of an intellectual has been restricted by an educational system to mean indoctrinate students into what the system believes to be “academic”. Gerald Graff’s essay “Hidden Intellectualism” argues that there is knowledge and intelligence beyond what the traditional education system is practicing. Graff contends that incorporating the interests of students into the lesson will help students think more effectively and logically. “Intellectualism” is seen by how well a student does in traditional subjects.…
Hidden Intellectualism has been become a controversial topic for educators of late and needs to be assessed so that educators can address this particular issue and modify classroom teachiwhether or not a person with a highly evolved “street smarts” and who does poorly in an academic environment should be considered any less intellectual than one who is well acclimated to academia and categorized as an excellent student On the one hand gerald graff argues that “real intellectuals turn any subject how ever lightweight it may seem, into gist for their mill through the thoughtful questions they bring to it. Whereas a dullard will find a way to drain even the richest subject”. The essence of Gerald Graff 's argument is that students should be…
To start off, Graff does a nice job incorporating an anecdote and pathos into Hidden Intellectualism. It appeals to feelings. In the first few sentences of his article it is easy to relate to his words. Although some people can relate to it, not everyone can. However he needs more logic in it.…
The rule is one of the most important elements to maintain efficient and well-functioning civilization, but rules are also limit people’s individuality to conform to exemplary form and create mundane and limit one’s individuality. To express one’s individuality, and to escape cruel reality, people try to connect stories larger than themselves which one wouldn't explore unless rules limit individuality. Karen Armstrong’s “Homo Religious,” Armstrong explains how people seek ekstasis to escape the reality. Primitive social people have regularly sought ekstasis, escaping the norm, through religion. In Azar Nafisi’s “Reading in Lolita in Tehran,” Nafisi shows how People who are under oppressive religious rule, Nafisi’s students, escapes the harsh…
She begins with stating that scholars have debated this theory for a long time. In 1914, Goddard published a report stating that low intelligence causes criminal behavior. When researching IQ’s many were concerned that conclusions might be misleading about race and class. In 1977 a study conducted by Hirchi & Hindelang reported that delinquents did have lower IQ scores than non-delinquents.…

As a society, when we define things such as intelligence in a cookie-cutter fashion, we are only hurting ourselves. When our school does this, we are only hurting our students into becoming one-size fit all members of society. As a culture, we should move away from these ideas into a more fluid education where we can teach students on an individual level rather than telling them to do things that might not be fit to their set of skills. In order for a more intellectually diverse society, our education system and the idea of intelligence needs to…
