Tony Taylor Case Study

Tony Taylor is a 39-year-old African American Male who was reported to have been sent to a psychiatric program due to claims of sudden impulses to stab surrounding individuals. Staff reported that while there, Tony was portrayed to be manipulative and charming. Tony reported to have had a history of abuse with alcohol, heroin, and cocaine, but has claimed to be clean for three weeks. Tony also stated that he has been arrests for several felonies, which included armed robbery and kidnapping, which was trivialized and not taken into accountability when explained. During these last 20 years, there have been multiple reports of hospitalizations due to suicidal ideations and/or had violent impulses. His criteria goes as follows: “Failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors, as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest” (multiple arrests for multiple felonies documented [armed robberies, neglect of a minor, kidnapping]), “Impulsivity or failure to plan ahead” (Tony reported sudden impulses to stab individuals, substance abuse, and violent impulses, etc.), “Reckless disregard for safety of self or others” (suicidal ideations [cutting wrists, jumping off bridge], felonies that involve safety risk of others, etc.), “Consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations” (worked sporadically, has not worked for seven years, has failed to pay child support, trivializes responsibilities/consequences of actions), “lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent or to rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another” (again, armed robberies [stealing from others], mistreating individuals [holding individual with machete, kidnapping, etc.], and though it is not specifically stated that Tony lacks remorse, his demeanor has been stated to be manipulative and charming, and again, also trying to justify his behaviors by minimizing his actions) (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Also, no individual is to be diagnosed with (any) personality disorder before the age of eighteen. Antisocial Personality Disorder is known to be more prevalent in males than females- and there is a distinction in how this personality disorder affects them. Males are more likely to be involved in substance abuse (like in Tony’s case) while women experience more somatic symptoms with Antisocial Personality Disorder. There are no studies indicating whether or not Antisocial Personality Disorder affects any particular race/culture; however, it is stated that there is a pattern of individuals being affected in those who live in a lower socioeconomic status and urban
