Tony Montana Movie Essay

The movies begins with a text describing how Castro opens the port of Mariel Harbor, Cuba, to thousands emmigrating to the United States in search of the American dream. The text also tells us that Castro unlocks the over packed prisons as well, allowing thousands of criminals to join the refugees. Tony Montana, the main character played by Al Pacino, is one of them. In Florida, Montana starts to make his way to the top, connecting with a powerful gangster by the name of Frank Lopez. Tony is ruthless and shoots down anyone who crosses his path to power, fame, and wealth. He eventually kills Lopez and marries his mistress, Elvira, who is the girl of his dreams. Montana then becomes the leader of a cocaine empire, however like that of others …show more content…
This was depicted by gangsters going on murderous rampages with horrific results. It was this moral standing which Scarface was influenced by, reflecting the terrible repercussions of a criminal lifestyle. The infamous scene of Tony’s friend Angel getting dismembered by a chainsaw underlined such horrifying realities. This scene made use of closeups, emphasising the chainsaw and suspenseful music to convey terror within Tony seeing Angel brutally murdered and potentially suffering the same fate. This scene also contradicts S carface’ s reputation in exploiting action and glorifying criminality. Tony’s reactions and fear of decapitation should have indicated to audiences the horrific repercussions rather than a celebration of a criminal …show more content…

Tony’s realisation of his criminal lifestyle took influence from its predecessor, where its protagonist becomes increasingly dazed as his life drastically changed. Scarface has become misinterpreted in glamorizing criminality and instead should be seen as conveying horrific realities of a criminal lifestyle with no

“The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates” was written by Wes Moore, a Rhodes scholar and combat veteran. The novel was published in 2011 by Random House Publishing. I chose this novel because I was captured by it’s title and the background story. It’s based on a true story about two males, who have the same name, are raised in the same poverty and crime-infested area, but hold two completely different fates. Although they both had their fair share of committing crimes, one went on to be the author of this novel, a scholar, and veteran, while the other is serving a life sentence in prison.…

Poor Parenting Leads Towards Children Joining Gangs While reading the novel, Always Running by Luis Rodriguez, I found a key reason why children are more prone to joining gangs than others. Luis Rodriguez writes how and why he joined at an early age and how that impacted who he became later on in life. In another article, Poor Parenting Causes Some Children to Join Gangs by Lewis Yablonsky, he states that children who were raised in dysfunctional homes, are more likely to participate in gang violence. From the moment we are placed into our mothers or fathers awaiting arms, we are influenced by everything and everyone around us. Even if we don’t recall the details as an infant, the actions and the feelings that surround us, form us into who…

Freedom of speech has always been a topic of conversation on whether or not we really have it, or it’s portrayed like we do so the American people can be content. There is plenty of proof on the fact that our freedom of speech is actually being taken away from us. Even now as our generation is more open minded, it doesn’t mean that we allow for anyone to have what they think is right, heard. Then whenever we question that our right is being taken away, we are meant with critiques that we are just babies and Liberal snowflakes that don’t really know what it is to not have freedom of speech. There are cases like with what happened with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, which was taking a stand by kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest against…

This film shows many different people’s views of their life in high school and how they have had many challenges to face and how these students were able to come over them. It is hard to say who is the protagonist is this film because there are so many to pick from. I would say the top two protagonists in the film are Stacey Hamilton and Jeff Spicoli. Although these teens are both dealing with two different situations they are able to overcome them in the end.…
