Tonia Shaw Pennington: A Hero

A hero is defined as someone who is admired for great acts or fine qualities. George Washington said, “My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her” (Nguyen). Tonia Pennington is a hero because she has done so much for others and means the world to many people. She loves everyone unconditionally, she is always supportive, and will do anything for her family. Tonia Shaw Pennington was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 18, 1967 and grew up in Linwood, North Carolina. Tonia was born to Rachel and Bill Shaw. She has one brother named Bryan Shaw. At the age of two, her parents decided they did not want to raise children in a big city, so they moved to Lexington, North Carolina in order to be closer to her father's family. Tonia has always made her family a priority. Even when she feels terrible she always manages to find a smile for Sarah and Scott. She volunteered at her children’s elementary school. She was treasurer of the PTO and never missed a ballet recital, soccer or baseball/softball practice or game and continues to do so today. Tonia is always willing to help her children the best she can with their studies as well. Whether it is helping out with a math problem, studying vocabulary words, or proofreading a research paper she is always happy to help. Tonia makes sure Sarah and Scott are well-rounded individuals by involving them in music, church, and other art forms. She loves helping out around her church like feeding the homeless shelter, making care blankets, packing backpacks for those less fortunate, and donating can food items. Tonia also helps with Touching Davidson County with Love, which does projects around Davidson county to help others in need such as cleaning up Camp
