In this interview, I interviewed a person that influences me throughout my life, Tomoko Minoda my mom. My mom was born and raised in Japan. In Japan you have a choice of going to high school or not going to high school but most people back in the time went to high school. During their last few weeks of school my mom had to decide what college she wanted to go to. She decided to go to a Community College. She said “I choose to go to a Community College because I was not sure what I liked or what I was really interested in. Therefore I thought that if I went to a Community College I would find something I would like and be interested in.” When I asked her if she liked the Community College or no she said “Yes, I liked the college I went to because I felt more free and some of my friends went there.” In her two years of college she did …show more content…

She said “I hated English class because I could not speak the words we learned and it was also my second language” On the other hand she said she liked P.E. class. “I liked P.E. class because I liked to move around and play team sports.” She stated. As the last year of her college came she had interest in stock company. She said “This was because that job was a busy job plus the salary was good. And of course I was able to work at a stock company for about 3 years and yes of course I loved my job.” She also said if she could she would want to go back a restart her college life again. “I would like to restart from choosing which college to go to. In the essay “Colleges Prepare People for Life”, Freeman Hrabowaski argues the importance of college education by responding to the claims in an article written by the New York Times, titled “College is for Suckers”. According to Hrabowaski, the New York Times makes the point that students are taking on large amounts of of debt and are graduating unprepared for work in the real world. Hrabowaski disagrees with these claims when he writes “When we focus so heavily on the momentary inputs and outputs, we ignore the question of what it truly means to be educated”. The essence of Hrabowaski’s argument is that people are too fixated on the negative financial aspect of college rather than what students could actually benefit from when gaining higher education. While I agree that money shouldn’t be the single most important decision when thinking about going to college, I also…

“They say that college is where you find yourself, but I feel more lost than ever.” Although this may be true, I began to think I was looking for something to blame. This quote replayed in my head, as I walked out of the counselor's office with both my parents along my side as I felt the vibe of their uncertainty with my decision to go back. Before it gets good, it gets more boring. Summer had started and it’s been a year since I’ve been to college.…

Unfortunately, my brother had to drop out of college because of the money issue we had, where rent had become the first priority to our family. Seeing this happen to my brother, made me feel concerned about the future, and also envision what could be stored in mine. On a particularly sunny morning in Washington, Mr. Charbonnel, sipping on a mug of tea over skype, answered my question regarding his choice in university. He gave me two separate answers to my questions. The first answer being the one he gave to his family and friends, “I wanted to go to school with my sister so I applied to Washington State!”. But after a moment’s chuckle he responded, “The actual reason why I choose Washington State over any other school was that I had procrastinated all first semester, and it was the only school that was actually still taking applicants.”. Having known Mr. Brandon Charbonnel most of my life, once as a teacher now as a friend and a somewhat of a role model, I was satisfied with the second answer he had…
