One example of this call is shown here: "She fought alongside Kiso no Yoshinaka at his last, fateful battle of Awazu in 1184." (Lutz, 1) The hero is called to this adventure because she is requested by Kiso no Yoshinaka to become a samurai and fight by his side in the battle of Awazu. Ultimately, Tomoe Gozen's goal in her call to adventure is to win all of the battles against the other samurai and also she wants to prove her loyalty to Kiso no Yoshinaka. An example of how great Tomoe Gozen's loyalty to Kiso no Yoshinaka is shown here: "According to the Genpei jōsuki, at the Battle of Kurikawa (also called Battle of Tonamiyama) on June 2, 1183, Tomoe "personally commands a force of one thousand mounted warriors" (Tyler 137), an extraordinarily rare feat for female samurai." An example of Tomoe's mental return: "Another samurai, Wada no Kotarō, impressed by her valor as samurai warrior falls in love with Tomoe. He wins her pardon and marries her. Together they have a son , Asahina Saburō Yoshihide." (Lutz, 3) Tomoe Gozen also has spiritual return because she has to give everything up, so she becomes a nun. An example of Tomoe Gozen's spiritual return: "When Tomoe's husband is killed by the rival Hōjō clan, Tomoe becomes a nun. She dies in 1247, at ninety years old." (Lutz, 3) Tomoe Gozen transforms in the return because before she has a child she fought in several wars, became a great archer and strong swords woman. Tomoe Gozen succeeds in realizing her final goal because she was loyal to her lord and won her battles and she still managed to be a mother and have a child.
