Short Story Of Tommy's Life

Tommy was not your ordinary child. Tommy went to live with his grandparents after his parents had tragically died when he was a young boy. Although Tommy enjoyed living with his grandparents, he usually kept to himself, but the grandparents were constantly there to support him. Tommy’s sorrow of his parents ' death made him to want to escape reality. One day while playing in his grandparents’ attic Tommy looked behind a big, thick, wool curtain and found a hidden door. What looked like a simple door changed Bob 's life forever. When he walked through the door he was immediately hit with the smell of cinnamon rolls and the sound of animals talking and laughing. Tommy could see the mushroom houses, and feel the grass between his toes. All around …show more content…
Tommy, frightened, looked at the door. His heart was pounding. Tommy was sure he had seen the doorknob turn. Frozen, Tommy watched the door open revealing his grandpa. Gus-Gus and Annie didn 't run away they continued to try and play with Tommy and their swords, but Tommy was too afraid to play anymore. Once Gus-Gus and Annie recognized who grandpa was, they rushed over and started hugging him. "We 're so glad you 're back!" they said together. Grandpa bent down and gently hugged the little mice, but Tommy just stood staring at the three of them confusion written all over his face. Grandpa told the mice that he and Tommy needed to leave now, and then grandpa took Tommy 's hand and led him back through the door. All of them went grocery shopping and the day continued as usual. Tommy did not know what to think or do. Was it all a dream? Maybe it didn’t happen? Later that night grandpa came in as usual to read a bedtime story. Before Grandpa could even start reading, Tommy broke down crying. His grandpa looked at him and asked him what was wrong. Tommy told his grandpa that he was afraid that he would lock the door forever and never let Tommy back through it. Tommy’s grandpa lovingly gave him a hug and told Tommy that the door was his to use whenever he …show more content…
Grandpa said "I too used to use the door, and escape the sorrows of the real world. But then one day I no longer needed the happy world to escape to, because my own world had become happy." Tommy was so happy that his grandpa would continue to let him use the door. Tommy continued to go to the happy world every day. However, as Tommy grew older, there did come a day when his sorrow and loneliness eventually faded and he no longer needed the happy world or the
