Many people have reached the summit of Everest. Some people had to work harder than others, for example climbers with disabilities. There are many disabled people that have climbed Mt.Everest but because of their disabilities, some were in greater danger than others.
Tom Whittaker was an amputee who climbed Everest. In fact he was the first amputee to reach the summit. It was thanksgiving day 1997 right after Tom got a Master of Arts degree. A drunk driver swerved into the wrong lane and hit Tom’s VW bus head on. That is how Tom lost his leg. After the accident Tom liked to compare himself to Hercules because Hercules had lost his foot and they both had big dreams and nothing was going to get in their way. This is a disease where the retinas become detached and gradually split. Erik was thirteen when he entirely lost his eyesight.
Some people would say that Erik was crazy for even thinking about risking his life on Everest. Erik was determined and did not care what anyone else had to say, he was going to climb Everest no matter how big the obstacle.
“Go big or go home” Erik could definitely ,correlate himself to this quote. Erik has done fifty skydives solo, and climbed Mt. Mckinley (Alaska) Mt. Aconcagua (Argentina) Mt. Vinson (Antarctica) and Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania).
These two people have followed their dreams all the way till the end. There are many other people that have disabilities that have climbed for example, Paul Hockey, Will Cross, Mark Inglis and Christine Nolan. Everest is full of endless creaveses, decending blocks of ice, and the edges of the mountain that only stick out and inch, and when you're climbing that mountain you are only focused on where you step because one wrong move and you're through.
