In the book The Glass Menagerie, characters were faced with many dilemmas, how they chose to proceed with them was questionable but they chose to get through them. The two characters that really caught my attention were Jim and Tom. Both characters are very similar in the way they act but still portrayed as different individuals.
Tom is hard working guy with dreams of going to school and accomplishing great things. But because Tom had to work to support his family he was unable to do so. Tom was forced to mature and take care of his family at an early age. His father left young Tom as well as his family and since then his mother depended on him. At times Tom feels held back by his mother but feels the responsibility to support his family. He copes by drinking and smoking cigarettes by a fire. Jim grew up when he was able to move away and leave home. Tim on the hand was forced to grow up to support his family. Jim moves away therefore starting a new life while Tom wishes he could go away as well but can’t give his family circumstances. Jim finally moves away to be independent where as Tom still questions himself about leaving his family behind. In my personal experience I have experience a lot and it hard to get through and this why I do not judge people because you do not what they they go through every day. I can say I am not ery good at school but I work extremely hard and try to give it my all. I know if I try my best and give my all I can do it and if I fail I will get back up again and try it again. I see a lot people that take things for granted and I know I am not the smartest guy but I can tell you that I will never quit. Jim and Tom went through a lot and they just didn’t know how to get out of it and how to sole there
