In chapter 19 on page 117, Tom is melancholy because of his bad behavior and actions. “He hung his head and could not think of anything to say for the moment. Then he said: Auntie, I wish I hadn't done it - but I didn't think.” Another thing I noticed was how Tom started to mature and became more involved with the bigger problems of the real world. At the opening of the book, it seemed as though Tom was more concerned about licking (punching) other boys. In chapter 1 page 16, Tom got in a fight with a boy for no essential reasoning. “ In an instant and tumbling in the dirt gripping together like cats; and for the space of a minute they tugged and tore at each other's hair and clothes, punched in scratched each other's noses, and covered themselves with dust and glory.” Then at the end of the book on page 139 …show more content…
This year I walked into my second day of language arts, and took a grammar quiz that I half guessed on. I knew from years earlier that I wasn't an expert in grammar. I ended up scoring around the fifties. After walking out of that classroom, I felt absolutely disheartened about my first test grade. After going through the grammar unit I felt like I had a great understanding of grammar. Eventually we took the second test with better confidence. The whole class seemed as though they were very content with their new scores. As for me, I scored at least thirty points higher, and I was thrilled. I felt as though I was the queen of a kingdom. This year I also noticed a change in my social studies. I remember from the beginning of the year Mr. Determan said social sturdiest will be a lot more advanced this year.
