Are Today's Stories Really New? Thought the happily ever afters and the fairytale endings people read to their kids were left in the past, well think again. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain exemplifies a scoundrel boy who faces challenge after challenge even though he already overcame the greatest one of all. The book shows a story told through the eyes of Tom Sawyer as he witnesses a murder and becomes haunted by it. Struggles with fitting in and exploring relationships to come to the ultimatum of his true friends. Even building a new life for himself after a tragic accident that leads to Tom being stuck living with his step brother Sid and his broken Aunt Polly. Tom Sawyer ,a relatively new piece of work, can be compared to many …show more content…
Tom always tries to fit in but he is just too distinct from everyone else and he never does. “He was a forsaken,friendless boy, he said; nobody loved him...he had tried to do right and get along,but they wouldn’t let him…”(Twain81). Tom is always lonely and he tried to make friends but it didn't work out, not because of him but because of others,by this people can tell that Tom doesn’t fit in. Comparable to the way Tom was looked at, the duck that hatched last in the story “The Ugly Duckling” was looked at differently than everyone else. “‘It’s a very large duckling,” said she; “none of the others look like that. Can it really be a turkey chick?Yes, but it’s too large and peculiar,” said the Duck who had bitten it;...”(Anderson). The other ducks poking and making fun at the differences between themselves and the ugly duckling shows that the other ducks do not feel he fits in. Tom is a boy always searching for adventure and battling with constant evils. “There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy’s life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure. This desire suddenly came upon Tom one day”(Twain146). Tom always looks for adventure even if it means going to search for hidden treasure. Hercules much like Tom yearned for adventure and had struggles battling his evils. “ He not only lived, he had great adventures, discovered true friends, and rid the world of some really nasty critters”(Hercules). Hercules lived his life with adventure and got rid of the evils of the world along the way tells that Hercules was always adventurous and tried to do right.
