Tom Sawyer is a boy whose parents have died. He lives with his aunt and causes all sorts of problems. As he grows up as the book goes along he doesn't get into trouble as often. On the way to school he stops to talk to Huckleberry Finn. Because of that Tom is late for school. As punishment he is ordered to sit with the girls. He sits next to Becky Thatcher and draws her pictures but he is soon put back in his usual seat. A few days later he fights with Becky Thatcher. Tom and two other boys run away to be pirates, Tom wants to get even with Becky, and all the boys want to have fun. But it doesn't last they go back to town on the day of their funeral.
