Tom Robinson’s trial is a very useful way for Lee to display and use the argument against racial bias. Atticus proves Tom’s innocence yet he is still found guilty, not due to facts but due to the bigotry, ignorant views the jury withholds.

The question reflects very well off of the Trial. The law so clearly failed, and resulted in the death of an innocent man. How are we expected to have faith in a system that is so flawed and filled with bias, How are we expected to have faith in humanity when we are okay with the thought and the doing, of killing an innocent human being solely based off the colour of their skin/ the amount of pigment in their skin?
It is a disturbing reality that Harper Lee portrayed in the novel incredibly well and she really helped make us as readers think. In the book there is a quote “Miss Jean Louise, Stand up. Your father’s passin”. This is a very symbolic quote in the novel and the reasoning for that is Atticus put his everything into this case and it was a case that not only he knew but everybody knew, he was not winning. Atticus plays a very Heroic character, not in the sense that he saves anybody but for the fact that he helped restore faith for the future, Atticus showed that it only takes one person to make a difference and that is a very massive halo in the dark times they were in. In conclusion, Harper Lee really highlighted the racial prejudice that existed in Maycomb and she really went above and beyond as far as showing the unfair conditions that people of colour were exposed to.
