Tom Robinson, a character in To Kill A Mockingbird, is incessantly looked down upon due to his skin color, a factor that he has no control over. The story depicts Tom being accused of a crime that he didn’t commit. All due to the community assuming that it’s typical for a negro man to undertake a felony, he’s forced to suffer through unwanted and undeserved hardships. Tom haplessly had the disadvantage of being a colored man. “‘In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins.’”…

In this story the Author makes me wonder if Tom Robinson will be guilty or not. Tom can be guilty for many different reasons. During the trial Tom is asked if he ever went to Mayella’s house more than once and he responds saying, “I went lots of times” (Lee 255). The fact that he went to Mayella’s house many times showed that he had many interactions with her. He would help her because he was sorry for her…

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a book about a young girl named Scout and the experiences she encounters in her little town in Alabama. This book talks a lot about the conflicts she has with other people, these conflicts range from having a one-sided discussion with a teacher to a night of unrivaled fury by a man attacking Scout and her brother. However the story does not just show hate for these antagonists, but rather something more. The narrator describes the antagonists as more dynamic, and it is as if trying to create a bond not only with the main characters, but the opposing characters as well. Pity is defined as “a strong feeling of sadness or sympathy for someone or something” (Webster’s Dictionary).…

Mr. Underwood compared Tom Robinson to a mockingbird because the sense of innocence they both have. The description Mr. underwood perfectly gives us the comparison of Tom to the mockingbird, “He likened Tom’s death to the senseless slaughter of songbirds by hunters and children.” (Lee 275) Literally speaking, a mockingbird is a symbol of a innocent songbird just as to Tom’s innocence and his death was slaughter and wrong. The mockingbird represents innocence, and is just a simple songbird who respects all bringing songs of joy and happiness to people.…

The majority of these two chapters takes place inside or just outside of the 5th Judicial Court in Maycomb County. During these chapters Tom Robinson and Atticus speak for themselves in the case. How they say what they say is influenced by the surrounding culture of the characters. Tom Robinson talks in slang and “sounds” depressed and not enthusiastic. I think that is because he is black and is looked down on…

Mayella Ewell tried to pin the situation of rape upon an innocent man because he was black and she knew she would get away with it. Before the trial, the town of Maycomb tells Atticus not to defend Tom. Maycomb, and its people, have favored racism over reason. The favoritism is mostly displayed when the trial takes place. Atticus proves, without a doubt, that Tom Robinson is innocent, by first, showing Tom’s limp arm and proving that there is no possible way for Tom to have hurt Mayella, and second, by showing Mayella’s father had beat her, since he is indeed left handed and an alcoholic.…

Before the story has begun, the African American is already accused of raping a white, nineteen year old Mayella Ewell. Many townspeople of Maycomb believe that Robinson is not responsible for his crime because he is a hard-working and well-respected man. On the other hand, they disrespect and distrust the prosecutor, Mayella Ewell, because she belongs to a poor, disgraceful “white trash” family who lives by the town’s dump. The second evidence that proves Tom Robinson’s innocence is found in Mr. Ewell’s testimony on the rape. Mr. Ewell, Mayella’s father and one of the witnesses of the incident, tells Atticus, the lawyer of Tom Robinson, that he does not call a doctor for Mayella on that day.…

Tom Robinson visited the house because Mayella would alway ask him to do something for her and also because when he goes to work at the fields in Mr. Link Deas the path he takes always passes the Ewell’s as stated on page 225 on paragraph 2. 2. The evidence that showed that Mayella is lonely is because Mr. Robinson said “Mr. Ewell didn’t seem to help her none, and neither the chillun” this means that when she had work nobody would help me and the term “mixed child” means in this book that since she didn’t come from well known honorable family the whites didn’t want anything to do with her and since she was white the blacks didn’t want anything to do with her. To me she is one of the saddest and loneliest person literally and spiritually.…

Mockingbirds are known to be likable animals that do not build nests or deface property; they only sing for everyone to hear.
