Which character is one of the “mockingbird” in the story (pick one) and why?
There are many characters in the novel that are mockingbirds. A character in the story who is a “mockingbird’” is Tom Robinson. I think Tom Robinson’s case is like killing a mockingbird. I believe this because “Mockingbirds don 't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don 't eat up people 's gardens, don 't nest in corncribs, they don 't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That 's why it 's a sin to kill a mockingbird” (Lee Harper, 93) like Miss Maudie says. This same quote by Miss Maudie’s would be proved in Tom Robinson’s case because he was like a mockingbird innocent and just adding to life in the village. He didn’t do anything that would

Firstly, during the trial, the man named Mr. Link Deas announces in the court that “I just want the whole lot of you to know one thing right now. That boy’s worked for me eight years an‘ I ain’t had a speck o’trouble outa him. Not a speck.” This shows that the boy has been working responsibly and hasn’t gotten into any trouble being a worker at the cotton farm with Deas. He is also responsible because being in the lower classes and one handed he is supporting his family consisting of a wife and three children. This shows that Tom’s innocent because he is responsible and mature in his decisions. Additionally he wasn’t getting into trouble for eight years with the farmer and suddenly he would become irresponsible from all his other chores and family to get into a court case with a white women. I think his responsibility wouldn’t let him be hasty about getting into a crime since he also had a family to support. This is a character trait that Robinson has that shows he is innocent. Another way readers are able to predict Tom Robinson innocence is that he is not hesitant about any of the answers he is giving. To start, when Tom is called into the witness box and is asked about his first court case. The reader is able to see that he is calmly answering the questions and it can be seen he is being honest about it because the court already has all the details of his first case. His words and expressions are normal unlike the white women Mayella’s who seemed scared from Atticus. Her hesitancy to answer could also be seen when Atticus was asking her questions related to the crime scene. Also, during the actual proceedings of the crime Tom Robinson is asked many questions where he answers without any signs of hesitancy or nervousness. This shows his innocence to the readers because we are able to differ between the

Throughout this journal, I predict that Tom Robinson will end up being guilty. One can see that Tom Robinson could be pronounced guilty for a few reasons. The first reason is when someone talked to Tom he did not respond and he just stayed silent. In the text it states, “the spectators were quiet, but the defendant said something. Atticus whispered to him, and Tom Robinson was silent” (Lee 233).…

In the end, Tom is guilty and when Atticus passes, the colored balcony of people stand. The town has mixed feelings of the jury’s decision. He also un-buttoned his clothes to show Tom that this trial will be an “easy” one to win. Epically when Atticus is defending an honest man. I predict that the Ewell’s will lose the case, and after the trial is over Atticus will be questioned. I will be characterizing Tom Robinson from the chapters 16-24. First off I characterized Tom to be truthful.…

(Lee 271) Atticus have said that Tom Robinson is pleaded guilty and charged with lack of evidence from cross-examination, but the Ewell's were not guilty and Tom was an innocent man being accused guilty. Even though Tom was clearly proven innocent 11 out of 12 voted for Tom to be guilty from the jury because they didn't see a reason why he should be innocent. In both trials and novel Tom and Haywood were killed after being convicted guilty. [In February 1941, an inmate paid…

The same suspense is portrayed during the trial. Atticus used the best of his skills to the best of his abilities that day by proving the Ewell’s testimonies to be false. As we sit and wait for the verdict we see Atticus “put his foot on the rung of the chair and rub his hand slowly down his thigh” as we have seen him do before with the mad dog. Seeing him do this sparks Scouts memory of the dog on how she was sitting there waiting for the dog to drop. We all know that Tom is innocent based on the evidence, but we still are on the edge of our seat because his fate is in the juries hands.…

Unfortunately for Tom he lived in Maycomb, a rather racist town, and he was far too nice to white people that treated him terribly. “ Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth and screamed” (Lee, 244). Even Scout knew and she was only six. It seemed that everyone in town knew, including Tom, the outcome of this trial. The only people who did not know that Tom Robinson would be convicted where the children, innocence is shown through age.…

Essentially, Tom knows that if he stands there while Bob Ewell walks in, he will be killed in a heartbeat and nothing will be done about it. In support of this racism, Atticus says, “…absence of any corroborative evidence, this man was indicted on a capital charge and is now on trial for his life” (Lee 270). The whole town of Maycomb knows that Tom Robinson never received a fair trial to begin with. Tom is sentenced to death before he even walked foot into the courtroom. The jury convicts him of rape with no substantial evidence to support the ruling.…

In the novel, the mockingbird is a symbol of innocence and killing a mockingbird would to be to unnecessarily persecute someone or something. During Chapter 10, Atticus explained to Jem and Scout why not to shoot at mockingbirds. Mockingbirds represent the idea of innocence as they don't do any harm to their surroundings, so to kill one would not only serve no purpose, but it would be morally wrong. There is no justification for killing a mockingbird, and yet hunters and children still shoot at them. Similar to shooting a mockingbird, there are innocent people in Maycomb that are persecuted for no real reason.…
