Tom Robinson Convicted of Rape and Getting Killed While Attempting to Escape Prison Tom Robinson was a black man living in Macomb county with a wife and kids when all of that changed on July 29 of this year. Robinson was passing by Miss Mayella Ewell’s house that evening and was asked to help Miss Ewell chop some chiffarobe. Later that night, he was accused of raping a white girl, Mayella Ewell, by Mayella’s father, Bob Ewell. Mayella had been beat about the face and neck and, according to Mr. Ewell, was caught raping Mayella Ewell. Tom’s trial was held on August 4, with him, Atticus Finch, the best lawyer in the county.
