Tom Robinson Honest In To Kill A Mockingbird

In this paragraph, I am going to be characterizing Tom Robinson. One word that depicts Tom Robinson would be honest. He is honest for many reasons. My first reason is that he is able to admit anything that he has done. In the courthouse, Tom admitted that he had been convicted for thirty days because he fought with a man and he could not pay the fine to get out (Lee 254). He wants everyone to get a better understanding of him so that no one is confused about him. Another reason he is honest is because he tells the story about the rape in full detail of how it really did not happen. He uses descriptive words and is able to answer all of Atticus’ questions without hesitating. As a reader, we know he is telling the truth because he tells other …show more content…
Clearly, Tom knows that in that case that he is the prey and the white people are the predator, ready to jump on him and kill him. However, he does not let that discourage him and he speaks the truth in the courthouse case. Those are some reasons of why he is an honest human being. Another characteristic that would describe Tom Robinson would be polite. When he was in the courthouse telling his side of the story, he used an appropriate level of English, which was astounding because usually black men did not go to school. He was very clear in describing his case and everyone was on the verge of his or her seat to listen to what he had to say because they could understand him. Another reason he is polite is because he is a nice and caring human being. Reverend Sykes said that he often went to Church and helped the Church make significant contributions to families in need. He was also nice when he told Mayella that he could not accept her pay because he was doing it to be courteous. One last reason that he is polite is because he is willing to understand other people and their

Tom Robinson, a character in To Kill A Mockingbird, is incessantly looked down upon due to his skin color, a factor that he has no control over. The story depicts Tom being accused of a crime that he didn’t commit. All due to the community assuming that it’s typical for a negro man to undertake a felony, he’s forced to suffer through unwanted and undeserved hardships. Tom haplessly had the disadvantage of being a colored man. “‘In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins.’”…

After realising that Mr.Arthur was the one that possibly saved her life, Scout began to look at Arthur as sort of a friend, or savior, instead of all the rumors that people had spread about him before. The same can be said about Tom Robinson. Tom and Atticus both know that Mayella Ewell is the guilty person in the court room, but instead of getting mad that Mayella is lieing, Tom tries to connect with her. With all the racism that Tom has to deal with on day to day life, he still tries to connect and understand other people despite who they are, just like the main protagonist, Atticus. Even to the girl who lied under oath in a court of law, and eventually the person that will cause Tom Robinson to loose the court case, he tries to relate…
