“The future was wide open” a quote about a boy named Ed in Tom Petty's poem “Into The Great Wide Open”. In the poem the man named Ed completes high school, moves to hollywood, gets a tattoo, a job, and a girlfriend. Tom Petty's narrative phony uses a shifting tone. In an unrealistic fashion it tells the story of the life of a rockstar.
In the poem, Ed tries to make it big in the music industry. In the story Ed graduates high school. He then moves to hollywood california. Ed gets a tattoo in hollywood. Ed also meets a girl in cali. He gets a job being a bouncer for a night club. Eds girlfriend teaches him how to play guitar. Next thing you know he makes a record and is a top hit. Ed starts making good money and partying with the top hit people
