Tom Otterness was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1952. He moved to New York City in 1970 to study at the Arts Students League. He is an artist whose work I found very eye catching. Otterness showcased the American society by creating sculptures that were, disarmingly cute and cartoonish, and underpinned by art history, popular culture, and a democratic vision, his characters mocked societal groups. (Phillips 2017). Otterness public art can be found populating numerous public areas.
Tom Otterness distinguishes his artwork into five characteristics which are: blue collar workers, white collar workers, cops, radicals and rich people. He bases his sculptures through these characteristics. Within those five characteristics he implements four topics which are: money, class, race and sex. By doing this it results in the viewers admiring the sculptures and sparking a conversation among themselves as they relate to the artwork.

It was her unorthodox ways which resulted in her breaking out on the international stage and becoming one of the best artists in the world. She even received a gold medal in 1967 for international renown artist in Sao Paulo Biennial.
Now her work is displayed all over the world and you can view at the Art Institute of Chicago; the Australian National Gallery of Art, Canberra; the Center for Contemporary Art and many other places. Her famous art sculpture is of the headless figure which are cast in bronze, through this sculpture she conveys the message that we as humans are very cable of being like sheep’s when it comes to our leaders. We tend to follow them blindly and not question their actions and decisions they make on behalf of us, and questions are there still individuals out there that are not following blindly or is she the only one. She does this by making each figure by hand. Another popular artwork of hers was the War Games. This piece conveys the negative message about how military is big and dominant but they are helpless stumps that just follow orders blindly without questioning them, whether it’s right or wrong.
