Tolkien’s first love was language and this was no secret due to his passion of his scholarly profession and his personal creative outlet all at once. Considering the fact that he specialized and was an expert in the study of “dead languages” also helped his creation of his stories. If one was to actually read any of his work you would see the amount of time, thought, mastery, and knowledge it would actually take to write a novel as good as The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, or The Lord of the Rings. Beowulf: The Monsters and Critics is the easiest way to see how educated Tolkien was because this is basically a translated version of Beowulf with lectures and notes at a professional scholarly level. Tolkien was also a professor at Oxford and even a student in his younger years. Even in today's day and age Oxford is a very prestigious school and not just anyone can get into this school let alone be a professor their so one could imagine how great tolkien was at his job. Tolkien also believed education was a very important aspect that a human could have not just to better himself but to better the world and the people around him. This type of mindset and hard work carried him to his success in life. Not only was Tolkien a well educated author and college professor but a role model as well that everyone should take examples from. This work ethic and mindset was seen from a young age in Tolkien even by his fellow peers as he always had his head in books or writing of some sort. (Johansen, K.V. "Tolkien and Lewis."
