Tokenism in an early childhood setting is showing little effort, feeling or interest towards the inclusion of different cultures, religions or minority groups. As a carer you need to show effort been made to include & welcome all different types of people to the environment or the setting would be uncomfortable, not welcoming & I know myself I would not want to use a facility that does not make my child or myself feel welcome or value our beliefs, traditions, culture etc.
To avoid this occurring in a childhood setting, I would ensure all staff are trained to provide the best environment to have all children feel included & comfortable within their childcare setting. All uncomfortable, awkward, bias, judgmental views should be dealt with immediately
