Toilet Training Readiness: Toilet training should take place only after it has been ascertained the child has the readiness skills required for toilet training and that there is a participation commitment by those doing the training. The following list from our notes indicates, “factors to consider as positive indicators for the child’s participation in the program may include:
• Dry pants- A child who remains dry for 45 minutes to an hour, without dribbling and remains dry during naptimes indicates an awareness of bladder control and readiness.
• Age of the child- Consideration should be given to developmental stage and the severity of the diagnosis, consider each child individually. Usually, those under 2 may have more difficulty attaining the skill. It may be helpful to check with child’s doctor in regards to readiness.
• Child initiates- Child may indicate subtle behaviours to caregivers indicating awareness that “something is happening down
