Decent Essays
Toes For Dance supports and develops the professional contemporary/ modern dance community by creating unique and valuable platforms for artistic exchange, public engagement and dance education.

My reaction was speechless; I enjoyed every second of every dance. Every dance was so detailed; it was just so perfect and inspiring. All the dancers brought awareness to an art form that is a daily life: movement. They all created opportunities for togetherness, conversation, and self-discovery, which looked so motivating and beautiful. I liked a lot of dances, but there was one that stood out to me the most. On November the 6th of 2015, the Grade 11 students of Arts West Dance went to watch the Toes For Dance Show.

Loud beats, shouts and footsteps fill my ears, and an awful stench of sweat makes it’s way into my nose, but this dance studio is a special place nonetheless. It may seem hectic and rowdy to some people, but not to me. An environment I entered so cautiously at first started to become natural and safe. I had never thought I would spend so much time in this place doing something I loved. I would not forget how the first day went.…

The buffalo dance as said by my friend who attended with me is similar to the Sun Dance. This buffalo dance is more of a dance that is in correspondence to curing the ill people, and within that calling in the spirit and energy of the buffalo. The jingle dress dance was probably my favorite dance out of all of the dances. The Jingle regalia is worn that compromises with various lines of what looks like metal cons that make a jingle bell noise while dancing, performing, or even walking. The men’s fancy dance was a little different compared to the other types of dances that went on.…

I continued this for 14 years because I loved how the company had mixture of dances from all over Asia and included ballet. It just shows how America has accepted more culturally different people and let them bring their culture to the U.S. Opposite to what Yoshino was taught, I learned to accept not only who I am, but also what I am…

Scholars have identified the works of several artists who showed a blend of both the Native American culture and that of Euro-American cultures in their paintings and drawings. For example, in the Shawnee War Dance by Ernest Spybuck 1833-1949, Spybuck shows the dance being performed for an Indian and a non-Indian audience. Spybuck has also embraced a Euro-American style of painting (Judith, 2008). The defined figures and flattened pictorial spaces of the earlier ledger drawings are no longer used as are swapped by sculptural figures and an illusionistic rendering of space similar to the work of 19th century artists such as George Catlin who frequently painted Native Americans. For Native Americans, narrative genre paintings were insignificant way of self-definition.…

All the dancers that participated in it all had their own personal stories that they could relate to which made the dance so special. Everyone was truly happy to be performing and telling the story. Another thing that really worked well with the dance was all the different parts throughout the dance along with the formations. Never did I once get bored and drift off into space while that dance was on stage. The choreography was so dynamic and unique that you never knew what to watch because everything that was going on was so beautiful.…

The cultural dance video from this week's assignment that drew my interest the most was the commercialized hula performance. This video stood out the most to me because I have never actually sat and watched hula dancing before so when I opened this video it immediately had me sucked in. The very beginning sequence before any dancing started when the girl placed the lai over the camera was so interesting and captivating. Also, the bright colors and fast paced hip movements were also factors that made the hula video the most interesting to me. There were also times especially about a minute in where the dancers slow down their movements and did simple arm movements that stood out to me because even though they were not doing anything extravagant…

From what I witnessed each dance included a physical technique. An example the first performance skit appeared to require a skill in balance, speed, agility, and physical effort. Another skit included running, jogging, jumping, and flexibility. These athletic aesthetics and basics were taught in our class as well and are very relatable. Units this could possibly relate to in our class were the running jogging unit, yoga, and circuit workout unit.…

Every dancer dreams of starting the one and only class that everybody knows is so famous. What is this beautiful class? It is Pointe, the gorgeous, little, squared-toed, baby-pink slippers that so many dancers strive to wear. Beauty is pain and the beauty of your feet after you’re done and the pain-staking hours it takes to break in the shoes is so worth it.…
