Today’s society has changed in many ways. One way that I am sure that many people have noticed, or have maybe even been effected by has been sexism. Many years ago women were expected to stay at home to take care of the children along with taking care of the house hold entities which included cooking, cleaning, and many more house hold chores. Men where typically expected to be providers in the home in which means to pay the bills, put food on the table, and to protect the family. With that being said, times have changed dramatically because in today’s society men and women both typically have a job and contribute to the home equally. Not only does each spouse contribute to the house hold equally, but they tend to share certain rolls and perform certain tasks equally such as both of them cooking, cleaning, caring for the children, and one I have already mentioned contributing to the house hold financially. I’m sure from reading the first paragraph of my paper you can kind of see where I am going with this. Paternity leave is important for both genders in today’s society because a husband and wife team can’t always lean on their parents, aunts, uncles, friends, or anyone for that matter sometimes, and whether or not they can should not make a difference. If a mother is awarded time for care and bonding, the father should be awarded the same amount of time for care and bonding. A father’s employer should analyze the leave based on any physical or medical problem that may have been caused through birth, or simply to just give care and attention to a child in his or her early weeks of life when serious problems can arise with the child. (The Huffington Post) The EEOC provides leverage for men to be able to get leave if they are not awarded any because the EEOC understand the importance of leave for a man first
