Compare and contrast Today I Christopher Tafolla is comparing and contrasting two books that are based on the Holocaust. The first book that I will be talking about is The Enemy Above. This story talks about a 12 year old boy named Anton and lives on his family’s farm in Ukraine. Anton’s mother died when he really young and his father enrolled into the Polish army in 1939 so he was being raised by his grandmother and his uncles. When the Nazis come to ukraine and they have to leave his farm he and his bubbe (which is his grandmother) travel through a forest where they find one of Anton’s uncles which is uncle Dmitri who leads them to a well hidden cave. The main character Max and his sister Zena are all alone in the ghetto thinking that they are all that left. When they reach beyond the fence for a little more food a Nazi see them and thinks that they are trying to escape then he captures Max and Zena saves him and the Nazi ends up getting shot by his own weapon. After all of that Max and Zena run into a field and luckily a they find a farmer who is really good at acting like he loves the Nazi’s. The farmer hides them and he drives the Nazis in a whole different direction. Next maz and Zena find that he was hiding more than them and the find there aunt who is apart of the resistance against the Nazis. When they reunite their aunt introduces her squadmates that she works with. The farmer feeds them and they go back to their base. On their way they are attacked by Nazi bombers that bomb the entire forest that they are crossing s trees are falling and Max is stuck in a hole with a burning tree on top of him so he is stuck between them meanwhile the bombers are still attacking the forest. After a while he finds a rock that is sharp enough so that he can dig a hole big for him to get through. When the bombing finished the infantry moved in and their aunt and her squad were fighting the Nazi’s infantry. Later in time Max and and his sister and his aunts squad regroup they cross the river that they need to cross in order to get to the other side.Max gets treatment from the wound he received and 2 years later he and his family is reunited with father and then they cross the Atlantic ocean to America so that they could have a peaceful life. What this book has taught me is the struggles and hardships that most of the jewish people went through in europe. I can’t believe that someone would do this to all of these people just for being jewish. Without tolerance this entire world would just be mayhem and full of hate and evil just like what was in Hitler. I just
