Tobacco Influence On Public Health

For this assignment I decided to base my topic on Public Health Enemy #1, Tobacco Use. The reason I chose this topic was due to family factors that have occured within my family from tobacco. From being dangerously addicted to cancer, this topic is not seen lightly within my family. There are three major points I’d like to point out when discussing my topic. My first point is second hand smoke. On major player when it comes to tobacco is cigarettes. It is known to affect the individual mostly, second most their family. While second hand smoke is known to be dangerous to all, It affects children the most and can even result in death. SIDS is a disease spotted among Infants, and can be caused by the use of tobacco. Yet tobacco companies use children as one of their main targets. From day one they tempt children by associating tobacco brands with products they like. They recently have created candy flavored E-cigs and cigars which is known to be a “Flavor Trap”. A recent campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is now on the run to stop the world’s largest tobacco companies from targeting kids near schools in around the world. From Cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory diseases and even emphysema, tobacco hits almost every part of the body in some sort of way. Yet with years of facts and evidence of its outcomes, nearly 2 million people start a year. One social determinant spotted that affects individuals smoking include advertisements targeting women, racial groups, minorities and the youth.
