Tobacco Companies
It is obvious that in those countries that practice free trade, the public usually has the awareness that all industries are not equal and this generally creates a bias against certain industries. This discernment is unethical since it makes the consumers to be unfair against one industry against the other. An example of this situation is when certain consumers see the tobacco industry as threat to the society because of the products they produce. These people view the tobacco industry as a predatory industry whose market dynamics demand that it recruits young people. It does this by deploying vast promotional expenditures to create, communicate and amplify a set of positive values associated with the product. Once the glamour phase subsides, nicotine addiction takes over making the customer dependent on the product and securing a profitable cash flow. Trapped by nicotine addiction, the smoker is subject to a variety of sub-lethal illnesses which culminate in a one in two probability of death through smoking-related disease (Rowell). The tobacco industry has been a victim of such bias and majority of the people in the society have a negative insight against the tobacco industry and the companies involved in this industry. It is particularly unethical because the companies in the tobacco industry are businesses like any other business and they ensure that they are licensed in agreement to the specified laws and regulations (Rowell). The tobacco industry is a controlled industry and any company venturing in this industry has to comply with numerous
