In the 1930s, physicians were the authority for health issues. Patients would trust their doctor’s education and experiences, therefore follow their advice. Many health concerns rose about cigarettes publicly in the 1930s. Since this affected tobacco companies, they decided to take action. The tobacco companies noticed how much trust the public had for their physician’s suggestions, so as a result they use that in order to quell concerns about the danger of smoking. Resulting the use of many physicians in advertisements to control this dilemma.
Smoking became the usual for both men and women in these decades. It was never seen as anything bad since physicians were also smoking. It was as if the doctor’s choice was America’s choice. Cigarette
