Most recreational smoking starts at the age eighteen, but the majority of teens who do smoke, do not know the consequences. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Native Americans smoked tobacco for medical and religious purposes. Yet, they did not smoke every day for recreation. Tobacco first really became known when European explorers witnessed this, they then returned with a new found drug. Later the drug was adopted by the rich and poor as their drug of choice. They chose it to be their drug of choice due to its narcotic and soothing qualities caused by alkaloid nicotine. Nicotine causes several cancer related diseases increase in heart rate, blood pressure, heart attacks, and many other things. Tobacco companies are so selfish, …show more content…
According to a recent study, electric cigarettes or vaping, causes a horrid disease called Popcorn Lung. A study from a university says, “vape flavors that exist on the market may actually cause irreversible loss of lung function and eventual transplant.” Regular cigarettes cause cancer, as well. Basically, either way you intend to smoke nicotine, you are putting yourself at risk. Tobacco industries just amaze me with their disgusting ways of living. Tobacco companies are evil and have always had evil intentions. I could not agree more with Margaret Chain who spoke the wisest, in my eyes. Margaret Chain once said, “Tobacco is the only industry that produces products to make huge profits and at the same time damages the health and killing their consumers.” Tobacco industries are basically selling cancer sticks and turning the narcotic part of it into new flavors such bubble gum, watermelon, grape, etc., to try and appeal more to …show more content…
We have bigger global issues than having to worry about tobacco killing, which we shouldn’t have to. Reading about tobacco and its origins, effects, etc., I came across a global issues website that made an excellent point by stating, “Tobacco contributes to world hunger by diverting prime land away from food production.” Also from the World Health Organization, “Tobacco use is the world’s leading cause of the world’s preventable deaths. Tobacco causes hunger and so many illnesses.” Most people don’t even know what cigarettes consist of or what it does. Yet, they choose to do it and it’s a big problem in society. Tobacco cigarettes consist mostly of nicotine, which is the addictive part. Without nicotine, tobacco companies would completely go under. Cigarettes also consist of carbon monoxide, which is a poisonous gas. Carbon monoxide decreases muscle and heart functions. It causes fatigue, weakness and dizziness.
