In a world so concerned with ‘going green’ and being ‘eco-friendly,’ it is astonishing that so many people would knowingly put such toxic substances in their bodies. The CDC says, “There is no risk free level of exposure.” (qtd. in Licht, Hull, and Ballantyne 174) This epidemic of cigarette smoking is killing people worldwide, and yet we act as though it is an acceptable part of societies and cultures everywhere. While it is not feasible to believe that the world in its entirety can be rid of cigarettes, we should start in our own country.
