One reason the Vietnam war was not successful is that the Americans were invaders. As result of being invaders, American honestly did not have much chance. I assume they did not have a chance because they were in the Vietnamese's territory. Being in Vietnam gave the Vietnamese a tremendous advantage. I know John F. Kennedy did this with the purpose of helping South Vietnam.
