I would like to think we all would like to embrace the practice of meritocracy. This is the practice where people are promoted or given raises based off of their performance, and no other reason. Is this a dead practice? Is the very concept dead?
I do not believe the practice of meritocracy, the practice where people are promoted or given raises based of their performance, and no other reason; nor is the concept dead. At my place of employment, our annual raises are based upon merits. The employees are scored according to exceed expectations, met expectation, etc… The raises are allocated by how your score and what percentile your score falls in. My only argument, that I have with my employer’s merit scale, it that it is not a big difference between meeting expectations and exceeding expectations. I believe the margin should be greater than 1%.
