Good afternoon residents of Maycomb County, my name is Nathan Tax, and it is an honor to represent Maycomb County in this principle case. Over the past summer, Bob Ewell has committed the crime of defamation. Now, Bob had many reasons to commit this crime; whether that be to protect his family name, and his reputation, or to get back at Atticus. So when Bob Ewell was asked to be a witness in the Tom Robinson case, he decided to spew out false accusations about the defendant and Atticus in the days following the case. Throughout this trial, you will see how Bob Ewell has a temper, is careless, and is a no-good rotten liar. You will see that Bob Ewell is guilty of defamation. I ask you, the jury, to hear the evidence from Tom Robinson's trial. …show more content…
He also said “‘Well I was sayin’ Mayella was screamin’ fit to beat Jesus”’ (Lee 231). Also the days following the Tom Robinson trial, Bob’s temper and lies did not stop. “ Mr Ewell openly accused Atticus of getting his job” (Lee 232). Also “Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face and told him he’d get him if it took the rest of his life” (Lee 290). Now Bob Ewell also did not take care of the things around him either because “....the plot of ground around the cabin looked like a playhouse for an insane child” (Lee 228). Bob Ewell is guilty of a crime. There is honestly no other way to say it. He is guilty of defamation. The things Bob said on the witness stand are prohibited in a court of law.
