I predict that Tom Robinson will lose the case against Bob Ewell. There are two possibilities of what could happen. Either Bob Ewell will win, or Tom Robinson will win. Some reasons that Bob Ewell will win, is that he has a racial advantage, and this could work in his advantage in many cases. One of the cases is that the jury is white, which can cause a very biased opinion towards Bob Ewell.…

Bob Ewell threatens to get Atticus if it the last thing he does. The book says, "This morning Mr. Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he'd get him if it took the rest of his life." Mr. Ewell was furious with Atticus and wanted to kill him because of the outcome of the trial. (Lee, 290) If Jem was on the jury with eleven other boys like him, Tom would be free and the vote would be fair.…

Bob Ewell decided to hold the trial because he knew that he would win due to his skin color. In the 1930s, no colored person ever won a case and Tom Robinson was not going to be an exception. From my interpretation of the case it seems that Bob might have even thought that the town would appreciate him more for ‘saving them from a colored rapist’. At the end of chapter 26, Scout says that “Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth and screamed.” (Lee, 1960, pg.…

Harper Lee used this specific conflict, through Atticus and Bob Ewell’s interactions to establish that the barbarians maybe known for their fearlessness for diving head first into battle but the peacemaker can stop a war by using their brains because she wanted us to see what would happen when we lose our self-control, the rage consumes. That is exactly what happened to Bob Ewell when he attacked Atticus’ kids. Since his “last shred of credibility”() got stripped away from him by Atticus in the trial, Bob has not put his rage toward only him, but “ has a grudge against everybody connected to the [Tom Robinson] case” such as Helen Robinson or Scout and Jem() . Although Atticus had put too much faith into human nature and he said that “he’ll…

“Low-down skunk with enough liquor in him to make him brave enough to kill children” (Lee, 360) These are the words of Mr. Tate to tell Atticus Finch what he truly thinks of Bob Ewell. One thing about This is true because, Bob loves to drink, but when he does, he has no self-control and even attacks the children of the person he hates the most, Atticus Finch. Bob and Atticus have two drastically different lives, they have totally different social classes and ways of thinking and behaving. Atticus and Bob are very different for these reasons, Atticus has his own personality, and Bob has his own different lifestyle, but these two very different people are similar in some ways too. Before the story has begun, the African American is already accused of raping a white, nineteen year old Mayella Ewell. Many townspeople of Maycomb believe that Robinson is not responsible for his crime because he is a hard-working and well-respected man. On the other hand, they disrespect and distrust the prosecutor, Mayella Ewell, because she belongs to a poor, disgraceful “white trash” family who lives by the town’s dump. The second evidence that proves Tom Robinson’s innocence is found in Mr. Ewell’s testimony on the rape. Mr. Ewell, Mayella’s father and one of the witnesses of the incident, tells Atticus, the lawyer of Tom Robinson, that he does not call a doctor for Mayella on that day.…

Although he is linked by name to Robert E. Lee, an honored Southerner, Harper Lee’s characterization of Robert E. Lee "Bob" Ewell presents him as a loathsome and repulsive person. She achieves this through descriptions of his physical appearance, his cowardly actions, and through the cross-examination of his eldest daughter in To Kill a Mockingbird. A suggested alcoholic who spends all of his welfare money on whiskey, it is ironic that Bob Ewell, a hateful man from a disgraced family, shares a name with the revered Civil War commander. During the trial, the first time the reader is formally introduced to Bob Ewell, Lee describes him as a, “bantam cock of a man” who struts up to the witness stand and crows as he swears in (227).…

people that commit crimes should be executed Before reading the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee I did think that people should be executed if they commit a crime such as rape, or murder. However, after reading this powerful book it really opened my eyes and I realised how bad things truly were back then. For example if a white person said that a black person raped them the black person will get killed if they are innocent or not and without a fair trial. Tom Robinson, a negro had to go to court because Mayella Ewell, a white girl claimed that he had raped her.…

He is on trial for being an accused rapist, but the audience notices something about him, his left arm is crippled , Atticus is in the testimony of Mayella, he explains to the court “He got it caught in a cotton gin...when he (a) was boy...like bled to death… tore all the muscles from his bones”(page 249). Him telling this to the court shows that he is incapable of physically harming Mayella Ewell. Another example is when Scout, Jem and Dill are present at the case listening to the testimony of Tom Robinson . Scout realizes the reasoning for Mayella to have went below her skin color to feel a type of connection with someone ,the explanation is shown by Scout thinking “As Tom Robinson gave his testimony, it came to me that Mayella Ewell must have been the loneliest person in the world”(page 250).…

Although Atticus lost the case, everyone, including Bob Ewell knows that Tom was truly innocent. The case made it clear that Bob Ewell was the one who beat up Mayella and just accused it on an innocent man. When Atticus is questioning Mayella, the fact that Bob is just a drunk man who does not take care of his children is revealed. These things ruin Bob’s pride (although I don’t think he has any good qualities that make hime worthy of it) and having everyone see that you are a lazy drunk would make anyone angry. The case made the Ewell family look like fools and Bob wants revenge for this.…
