In the article, “To Terrify and Occupy,” by Matthew Harwood, the author’s purpose was for the public to understand how our law enforcement abuses the justice system. . He also points out the excessive force being used by police officers toward certain races for non-violent offenses. The author gives information about the money that is being used to arm the police to raid homes of small suspicious crimes. He also give information about those who use their voice to stop police brutality. The author provides a lot of sources about his information and facts about his claims. The author was successful in making his points with some of the information and logic that he provided. His point about police racial profiling only targeting a certain race was convincing because Blacks and Latinos are more suspicious of a crime, because of their background. Any race can be suspicious of a small crime, yet police believe only certain races are more alarming. In his article he uses the word “more often than not,” which makes me believe that the only race that is suspicious of committing crimes are only Black and Latinos, even though all …show more content…
Weapons that are not necessary for small nonviolent crimes. The heavy armory that the police are gifted with is from subsidizing programs and the 1033 program, which is overseen by the government. Millions and millions of dollars are being used to buy bigger equipment for local police officers to use on small nonviolent crimes that don’t need heavy weapons such as an automatic and semi-automatic rifles to stop crimes that are not violent such as drugs or fights between people. The way the money is used to buy heavy equipment for the local police officers is just a waste, the weapons are used in a much unappropriated manner where the officer do not realized that the weapons not only kill one person but could harm many others
