To Kill A Mockingbird Vs. The Chosen

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Chosen by Chaim Potok both withhold interesting and captivating plots. However, the overall meaning of each book determines which novel has a better moral. Additionally, in To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters’ qualities vary, which causes the reader to remain constantly intrigued when reading the book. Conversely, in The Chosen, the characters have similar values and the characteristics do not vary as much. Lastly, the plot in To Kill a Mockingbird is thought to have more captivating scenes and chapters. Therefore, some favor To Kill a Mockingbird over The Chosen due to their morals, the variation of characters, and the overall plot.

Primarily, To Kill a Mockingbird releases an important moral. Although The Chosen also withholds a moral, it does not contain the same importance. For example, while The Chosen’s moral consists of friendship, To Kill a Mockingbird has a moral that relates to slavery. Slavery holds a massive amount of importance because of how it impacted the characters in To Kill a Mockingbird. For instance, Tom Robinson suffered through a false court sentence and through murder due to only his race. In The Chosen, the moral consists of how Reuven and Danny’s friendship endured through years of difficulties. While friendship does hold importance as a moral, slavery does at a higher level because of its terrible

The movie To Kill a Mockingbird, based on the novel written by Harper Lee showed the life of a child during the Great Depression and captured the theme of innocence taken away by evil. In most cases the book is always better than the film because life lessons are taken away in greater detail and are much easier to apply to a reader's life. Many movies stray from the book as did To Kill a Mockingbird, but also captured the scenes not shown in the book. Unlike the book, the movie had taken away the relationship that Boo Radley had with the children. One part of the book which was not shown in the movie was Mrs. Maudie's house fire when Boo Radley had draped a blanket over Scout’s shoulders while Jem and Scout were standing in the cold.…

In Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and in Chaim Potok's The Chosen there are many godly characters. In The Chosen Mr. Saunders is a devout rabbi. While this may make it seem like he is the very godly, Atticus Finch, in To Kill a Mockingbird, is very godly as well. Being a godly person is not just about outwardly things, it is about actions. Reb Saunders clearly displays his devotion to god in the way he dresses and in his occupation, Atticus, on the other hand, displays his godliness in his actions.…

The Chosen vs To Kill a Mockingbird After many observations, I have come to the decision that Chaim Potok’s The Chosen exceeds Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird in the following areas: character development, making readers fell like they are watching from the sidelines, and creating great examples that people can follow. Throughout The Chosen, Chaim Potok displays his extensive vocabulary to describe his scenes and characters in his novel. Fortunately, his talents in writing do not end there. His ability to make readers feel like they are actually living and seeing what the character live and see stands above all other books I have read.…

In order to unearth the similarities of the book’s topics, one must first compare them. Courage, there is courage in both movies from Scout helping her dad all the way to the black people in “the help” sharing their stories to help free themselfs. It is hard to show you courage when you are young or when you are black. If you are young people will not take you seriously and when your black people will just shoot you and stay that you fell and broke your heart. Another showing of courage is when Atticus decided to help Tom Robinson when he got accused of hitting a girl. Light and darkness, in to kill a mockingbird there is dark and light because when Atticus was sitting outside of Tom Robinson's prison and there was darkness but where Atticus was there was light.…

Black lives matter, in these two films To Kill a Mockingbird and 12 Angry Men we learn that we need to stand up for what we believe in and take action. Atticus is in To Kill a Mockingbird and Juror eight is in 12 angry men and they have the same personalities in their films. The comparison here is Atticus from To Kill a Mockingbird and Juror 8 from 12 Angry Men. Juror eight was very determined and compassionate about the case. Juror 8 acted as if he knew he was correct but did not have much evidence to back himself up, he stood up for himself based on reasonable doubt.…

Characteristics (From Richard Chase. The American Novel and Its Tradition) • Renders reality closely and in comprehensive detail. Selective presentation of reality with an emphasis on verisimilitude, even at the expense of a well-made plot • Character is more important than action and plot; complex ethical choices are often the subject. • Characters appear in their real complexity of temperament and motive; they are in explicable relation to nature, to each other, to their social class, to their own past. • Class is important; the novel has traditionally served the interests and aspirations of an insurgent middle class.…
