Imagine being excluded, attacked, or being told wrong because of your colour. This is what black people had to go through and some are still struggling to this day. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” the characters in the story compare and contrast with some other characters in a new article found on the CBC News.

Their are a number of comparisons to be made form the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” and the article “Cop fatally shoots a black man after altercation in Wisconsin”. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” Tom Robinson was accused for raping Mrs. Ewell. In the news article a black man was also accused for something. Both men were shot for reasons that shouldn't have happened. "Which, gentlemen... some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some

Through out the book the white people were against the black people besides Atticus and his children. This contrasts with the article because the white people in the story were not all against the man that was shot It was only the cop that did the shooting. This brings up another difference in the communities of this city. The black community in Madison, Wisconsin are now not trusting of the police when they see them. Since most cops are white now they have thoughts about not calling the cops for help when needed. This is the opposite to “To Kill a Mockingbird” because in the story all the black people trust the white people because they are trusting. This makes the black people now a days sound racist because of what they have done to black people. Through out time things have been changing a little and a white man has black people fight back if he is racist. In the story “To Kill a Mockingbird” the black people were scared to fight back because times back then the black man always won. This was stated by Atticus, “In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins. They're ugly, but those are the facts of life,” (Lee, 1960, pg.38). Through out the news report it is shown that white people now feel bad for black people compared to the era of “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Another difference shown in the story is how racism has changed over time. Black people from the book would never even think about defending their family or friends because then something bad would happen to them. Now a days in the articles time. Other black people were defending their friend or
