The snowman that they built was made of mud and snow. This is symbolic of how the people of Maycomb will always believe there is a difference in black people and white people. In the book when the author shows the snowman has melted and all that is left is the mud by having Jem say “It’s gone, ain’t it?” and having Atticus respond “I expect so”. This example of symbolism shows how to the people of Maycomb if someone is black it doesn’t matter who they, how they act, or what they do because there still black. And to the people of Maycomb that is enough of a reason to judge a person. There are also many characters in the Book “To Kill A Mockingbird” that are examples of symbolism. Characters such as Jem or Tom Robinson are a couple examples of these. The title symbolises them by showing to kill a mockingbird is to harm something that is innocent. In the book all of these characters are innocent but are harmed anyway. In the book Jem has his arm broken by Bob Ewell even though he had done nothing simply because the character wanted revenge on Jem’s father, while Tom Robinson was convicted of rape and even ended up dying because the county of Maycomb could not overcome there
