The Caste System has caused many problems since the priest teach their followers they are more important than others. Abigail Fradkins writes in her paper, “Although caste and social inequality persist in modern India, the poor are now political in a way unheard of in the first several decades after independence” (Fradkin). Just by reading this statement, one can infer that India still has social inequality in their country today. The Caste System educates many citizens believe that they are superior to the others in a different caste. But with little improvement to their situation, the lower caste have made their way to the government. They all managed to do this improvement in an extremely long amount of time. If it took decade just to speak to government, they amount of time just to change it would be exponential. The classes in the Lee’s novel are similar. The black people were classified in a lower class than whites. The African American in the novel never seem to fix their condition either. This progression just shows how difficult it is to react in that modern society and in the past. The government is not only stubborn towards the lowers caste, but they also violate the rights of people they believe they are superior to. Fradkin also says the Women in the lower cast walk fearfully everyday with the possible threat of being seaxually abuse (Fradkin).The workers are poorly treated and cannot do anything about it. This progress is every similar to Harper Lee's Tom Robinson's trial. He could not defend himself because he was African American.
