Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, in an interview, described the acclaimed novel as a “simple love story.” Initially, I had strongly disagreed with this statement, because I presumed Harper Lee was referring to a romantic love. However, I shortly realized that Harper Lee was referring to a different type of love. What Harper Lee refers to is not the traditional romantic love typically associated with novels, but more of a selfless, benevolent love. This unconditional, self-sacrificing love is known as agape.
