To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee demonstrates that, it is a sin to demonize the innocent proven through Atticus Finch, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley. For example, Atticus is a helpful not harmful lawyer but is prosecuted for defending Tom Robinson, a black man. Scout’s cousin Francis hears from his family that Atticus is a, “nigger lover [...] he’s ruinin’ the family” (Lee 110). This proves that towards the beginning of the novel, Atticus’s family judges him for defending a black man. In addition, in court, Atticus proves that Tom Robinson did not rape Mayella Ewell but because he is black, Tom is found guilty for a crime he did not commit.
