Atticus is the moral compass in this novel, he guides his children to be compassionate, like Jesus guides his disciples to be compassionate. In the Bible New Testament Luke 6:35 “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing return, and your reward will be great...” In the novel Atticus also guides Scout and Jem that way. (p. 61) “Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is on the public streets” Jesus is also very righteous, As the Bible verse Matthew 23:23 “... and have neglected the weightier matters of the law – justice and mercy and faithfulness. But these you should have done and not neglected the others.” Unlike the Pharisee, they are hypocrites, they say things in a way and they do things in a opposite way. The Pharisees are like the missionary ladies in the novel, they help poor people in Africa, but they despise their own people in their own community. But Atticus is not like that, Miss Maudie's comment proves that if Atticus is the same at home and on the public street, there is no way for Atticus to despise his own people and help others. Jesus also said that righteous is more important that law, it shows that Jesus weight righteous heavily. Therefore it shows that Atticus and Jesus are both righteous
