To Kill A Mockingbird Reflective Essay

To me To Kill A MockingBird is about becoming understanding . The main character is a girl named Scout Finch and the book tell's it from her POV on how she see's her life and the people in it.This is a speical book I would recommend because I feel as though you can learn important values from it like I did.I learned 2 major lessons that stuck out to me.The first lesson that I learned was to never judge people by how they could act or their history. To me this was important because of the way they dared to go by Boo Radley's house and defy gravity. They went even though they knew he was considerd the scary monster of a person on a block. It stuck out so much because I thought "how could someone say that about another human being they bearly knew about. This simple fact had me on a hook because of how easily they accepted him. Knowing the society we live in today sterio-typing everything that comes into site. It gave me an inspiration just like they gave Boo Radely at life. What I mean mean is …show more content…
The thing that got me started on this was when scout says that she understands to her farther by saying "that would be like killing a MockingBird." This meteophorical statement just hit me like the wind because it was so clear what she was trying to say when she said that.I felt like she was trying to say how can do damage to something that dosent have a damage defense. Like she said it at the right time . THE way the book turned out when the detective came to the Finches' house and insisted that they blame bob's death on an accidental trip over a tree root. this amazes me because he knew that Boo did not like attention and giving him that unwanted attention was like setting him up to die. Or the other time when they show how the justice system in Alabama was not exactly fair to the colored man.It just showes how unfair life is and that "if you can't beat'em join'em" type of

Harper Lee writes tons of stereotypes in her book To Kill a Mockingbird to show that you can exist as your own person with confidence in who you are yet still get picked on in hopes of conforming to the beliefs of others personal requirements, just to be seen a certain way in others eyes. One important character named Scout was a tomboy in a time of harsh ridicule. Scout was very comfortable in her choices. She accepts herself as she is not realizing that she happens to star in the spotlight of harassment from female characters such as her own blood, Aunt Alexandra, including outside members such as Mrs. Dubose, and many other female characters. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has many examples of the use of forced gender roles that portray…

As Scout grows both physically and mentally, her personality is challenged by the social zeitgeists of Maycomb. When she says, “I was not so sure, but Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that's why other people hated them so, and if I started behaving like one I could just go off and find some to play with,” the repetition of the word ‘girl’ highlights how the specific ideas about women that dominate the gender debate. Due to this, Scout believes from an early age that girl things are “bad” and that she can avoid the “badness” of girls by not acting like one. When Scout describes, “I felt the starched walls of a pink cotton penitentiary closing in on me, and for the second time in my life I thought of running away. Immediately,” the use of a metaphor with “the starched walls of pink penitentiary closing in on me” reiterates her dislike of the dresses she was to wear.…

When Atticus is shooting with Tom he talks to Scout and Jem about the dangers of shooting and Atticus says, “Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird,” (Lee, 90). This shows how it's a sin to kill a mockingbird. This will later help us see why when you kill a mockingbird’s it's not right. And this could relate to Tom Robinson because when they later kill him you can say he was a mockingbird and was innocent of the accusation. And how he had good intentions, but was wrongfully accused of something that he did not do.…

He was also connected to the idea of innocence and mockingbird after the death of Bob Ewell. Sheriff Tate created the story about Ewell falling on his knife. He knew that if others knew that Boo killed Ewell then he would be brought to trial for the death and that would ruin his innocence. When Atticus explained this to Scout, Scout understood why they had to hide what Boo did and he replied by saying “Well, it’d be sort of like shootin‘ a mockingbird, wouldn’t it?” (Lee 276). The connection between mockingbird and innocence can be seen here because Scout compares publicizing Boo’s actions to shooting a mockingbird.…

Radley’s reason for doing so, he notices that people can be conniving when speaking to others. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem and Scout start to head to school, “Next morning on the way to school [Jem] ran ahead of me and stopped at the tree” (83). The setting for Jem is very important because he realizes what Mr. Radley is like and what he is capable of doing. He knows that Mr. Radley did this and he just feels awful after he lied just like that. In addition, in the novel, Jem wanted to get to the bottom of the concrete in the tree so, “When we went home for dinner Jem bolted his food, ran to the porch and stood on the steps”(83).…

While reading this essay, the same questions will be asked. But this time just think about, “I’d rather you shoot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays if you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”(119) Mockingbirds do nothing but sing and make music for us. It’s a sin to kill them because all they do is please us and it would be wrong to kill them for pleasure. In this book mockingbirds are many different things, one of them being a man named Arthur (Boo) Radley.…

As the children grow older, they spend more time with Miss Maudie. She impacts them by giving them her honest opinion and she teaches Scout that being a lady does not mean changing who you are to please others and scout learns that later in the book..............Miss Maudie also acts as a positive role model to the children. She always finds a way to turn negative situation into a positive one. For example when Mrs Maudie’s house burnt down and everyone was in a panic but Mrs Maudie was very calm and said: “Always wanted a smaller house Jem Finch. Gives me more yard, Just think, I’ll have more room for my azaleas” (p.97).…
