Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, was born in 1928 where racism and racial slurs were part of everyday dialect. Her goal for her story was to show the young people how bad these prejudices and this racist time period. An example in the book was how everyone thought Mr. Raymond was a drunk for marrying a black women and having mixed children, when he carried around a bottle in a bag it turned out to be just coca-cola. In the book I feel like Lee is most like scout because she was learning about racism and I believe during the setting she was roughly scout’s age, so she was going back into her childhood and recalling her growing up with it all around her.
