In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee The main character,Scout, grows up in the town of Maycomb as her father Atticus, the town lawyer, is faced with a case for a black man raping a white woman. Because of the colour of the man's skin Atticus is defending he and many others in Maycomb are very affected by racism. Just some of the people affected are Atticus, Dolphus Raymond, and Tom Robinson. Atticus is getting ambushed with rude comments and threats against him and his family. Dolphus Raymond has to pretend he is a drunk just so people don’t put him in the loony box because he is in relation with a black woman and they have mixed children together. Lastly Tom Robinson is framed for something he hadn’t done and placed in jail then killed all because of the colour of his skin. The racism in Maycomb is tearing the people apart whether you’re white, black, or mixed you can’t walk around Maycomb and not be affected by racism.
