Atticus is an amazing character who is able to show us through his actions just what real innocence is. As seen in this quote, “I’m simply defending a Negro—his name’s Tom Robinson.” Atticus is forced to accept the defense of Tom Robinson a case that he does not want to take. Atticus takes the risk of defending a black man accused of raping a white woman. By doing so he puts his life, and his family's, in danger. Atticus is an innocent person, but after all he is trying to do the people in Maycomb County are still hate Atticus. Yet, Atticus is a mockingbird.
